Plants are considered as an essential resource in ecosystem, as plants provides innumerable cherished resources like oxygen, they play an inimitable role in ecological balance. Since there are enormous variety of plant species across the world, it is imperative to classify these plants accordingly for attaining right benefits from the plants. Moreover, due to tremendous diversity of plants like piper plants, it is complicated to classify the plants according to the classes easily. Hence, different techniques are used for plant classification. However, plant classification using manual techniques are considered to be time consuming, prone to error and can be tedious process. Therefore, different AI approaches have been considered for plant classification as AI methods are faster, efficient, provides high level accuracy by effectively classifying the plants. Owing to these aspects, this paper focuses on compiling different AI techniques and emphasizes on reviewing all plant classification and piper plant classification using different AI techniques like ML and DL classifiers as piper plant classification helps with identifying and comprehending the diversity of piper plants as it provides innumerable benefits like medical, economical, culinary and other aspects the humans and environment. Various piper plants such as Piper Nigrum, Piper Betle and other such piper classes are reviewed in the study. In addition to classification, certain studies also deals with disease detection and assessing the quality of the piper plants. Moreover, applications of piper plants is reviewed in the present study for analyzing the utilization of piper plants across fields. Finally, the challenges are identified through the analysis of existing researchers and future recommendations are provided for overcoming the gaps that are intended to create promising work in this area.
